I may be misunderstanding what they mean by 'story based', though. None of the Japanese descriptions I read (about 5) mentioned it has to be story based.
I decided to look at definitions on Japanese websites because, you know, Japan is the source of otome. In English, two stated that otome games are strictly story based games (Wikipedia and Cannonette), while about 3 or so agreed with me. ¯(ツ)/¯ I read a whole bunch of descriptions and it seemed to be a bit varied. Although this game is not targeted towards a female audience, AA2 fits my description just fine otherwise. 3 years ago +1I consider an otome game to be any kind of dating simulator/romantic visual novel targeted towards the female audience where you end up with one of the love interests. The program make act like it's not responding sometimes, but it is. Then go back to the beginning and open the program by double clicking the IllusionWizzard.exe and apply mods. Put the.zip files of the mods you want there.
Put that folder into the game folder then go into the folder, go into the AA2Play folder, and then the mods folder.
